Aurora Activity from 6/7/13

On June 7th, significant aurora activity was significant enough to be seen though the Northern US as well as some mid-tier states. For Northern Minnesota where I’m at it was cloudy at home but a short one hour drive yielded a beautiful show start started just after 10pm in the waning areas of twilight and continued until sunrise. The display had the typical greens we normally see along with spires of purple and blue as the aurora pulsed throughout the early morning. With the absent of moon light due to a new moon, the Milky Way was easily seen and even the Internal Space Station could be seen shining brightly as it orbited overhead. A short time lapse from a few hours during the display can be seen at Vimeo.
