Ice at the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore | Moses Images

Near the end of the on ice season, I finally was able to get out to see the ice caves at the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. As of last Sunday evening just over 138,000 people had made there way over a frozen Lake Superior to tour the caves. The combination of the ice along the red cliff walls was very striking. The scale is hard to imagine until you have made the mile trek, over ice, to see the caves up close. Formations of ice reaching high along the cliff walls along with caves of all sizes display different formations of ice. I was glad I made the trek after weather cancelled previous plans to get out there. I am hopefully it won’t be another five years before we can enjoy this national treasure. Until that time a sample of the photos while out on the ice.
