2012 Cyclocross Nationals – Day 5 – Moses Images

The fifth and final day of racing at cyclocross nationals is done. Big crowds attending the final two elite races where they saw Katie Compton take her eighth title and Jeremy Powers get his first national championship title. Along with the elite title the collegiate races were decided with Marian University winning the D1 title and Mars Hill College winning the D2 title.

Day 4 of Cyclocross Nationals is in the books. Weather was still warm with a bit more wind. Today’s racing was a bit of everything with Juniors, Masters, Collegiate Women, and the Under 23 Men. In pretty much all the races the battle was to see who would join the leader on the podium. Here’s my selections from today’s action…

Despite a couple masters races on the schedule day 3 was definitely the juniors day here in Madison. On Friday many national champions were crowned from 10 years olds up to 18 year olds. The kids were amazing to watch out there. Pure determination tackling the tough muddy conditions. In many cases crashes never even slowed them down, they just bounced up and kept racing. Here’s a sampling of my photos focused on all the juniors who raced today.

Day 2 of Cyclocross Nationals is in the books. Gorgeous weather in Madison as we were somewhere near 50 degrees! Today saw lots of national titles go in the masters categories. Congratulations to fellow Minnesotan Linda Sone, the new national champion in her age group. Was a back and forth race for Linda as we saw the top two women change lead several times over their 4 lap race. Tomorrow we’ll see the juniors out on course and with warm temperatures once again looks to be sloppy mud kind of day. Here’s a sampling of my photos from today’s masters action:

NVGP Stage 6 – Stillwater Criterium – Stillwater, MN

Well the 2011 Nature Valley Grand Prix is now in the books. Some great racing in Stillwater gave us Amber Neben (HTC Highroad) and Jesse Anthony (Kelly Benefit Strategies-Optum Health) as our overall winners. From the photographer perspective it was a great event to photograph, plenty of emotion and exciting action. Will be interesting to see what next year brings. Here’s the final race gallery from stage 6 in Stillwater. Over the next few days I’ll process a larger subset of files to round of the coverage of this year’s event. Thanks for looking and the comments I’ve received.

NVGP Stage 5 – Menomonie Road Race – Menomonie, WI

Stage 5 saw lots of action and lead changes in both the men’s and women’s races. At the end It is now Jesse Anthony and Amber Neben who take the Nature Valley Leader Jersey into the final stage in Stillwater. Here’s some photos from today’s action.

NVGP Stage 4 – Uptown Criterium – Minneapolis, MN

Tonight was the Uptown Criterium. The rain held off until after the event had concluded. The women’s race saw several break attempts sit out front for a while but the Peanut Butter Co/Twenty 12 team worked the front of the peloton and never let it get too far ahead. In the end things were settling down for a field sprint until 200m from getting the final bell a mid-pack crash took out nearly half the field blocking the road. With multiple ambulances on the course to tend to the down riders the stage for the women was neutralized and doesn’t count for the overall. Several riders were transported and last word is that there were no serious injuries. On the men’s side United Healthcare proves tough to beat. An early break saw a rare case of the GC leader being present and he grabbed a time bonus from the first sprint. United Healthcare patrolled the front of the race and much like Saint Paul, in the end it was a field sprint with UHC taking the top two podium spots. Here’s some photos from tonight’s action.

NVGP Stage 3 – Cannon Falls Road Race – Cannon Falls, MN

Stage 3 is in the books. Unlike last year we had great weather for the Cannon Falls stage. Both races finished with the usual field sprints seen at this venue. Here’s some photos of todays action.

NVGP Stage 2 – Saint Paul Criterium Saint Paul, MN

Photos from Stage 2 in downtown Saint Paul. The women’s race had some rain but it went away and things dried out a bit for the men. No changes in the overall leaders, so off to the Cannon Falls road race on Thursday.
